Shop the Exclusive Beauty Products Our Editors Take on Date Night

From byrdie

Full disclosure: I’m in a long-term relationship. Most nights with my fiancé are spent in sweat pants, hair tied, chilling, with no makeup on—and despite what Drake says, that’s definitely not when I’m the prettiest.

Instead, date night is my jam. Heading out for some quality one-on-one time at a buzzy restaurant or bar is the perfect opportunity to doll up, while proving to myself (and him) that I’ve still got it.

For those casually dating or in newer relationships, date nights are certainly more frequent, but the same beauty rules apply: your look must be long-lasting, smudge-proof and effortless (in that I always look this good way). While there’s no need to tote your entire makeup kit to dinner, there are a few supplies you’ll enjoy having on hand—cue Sephora for all the essentials.

Group Publisher Alison is all about brows and dewy skin. In her date night bag, you’ll find Nudestix Moisture Pencil ($38), Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer ($45) and Becca Beach Tint ($45). The Becca tint is waterproof, so you won’t have to worry about smudging your lips/cheeks into your partner’s crisp white shirt when snuggling.

All great beauty editors tote touch-up essentials wherever they go, and Lisa is no exception. Caudalie Beauty Elixir ($18) is designed to be worn under makeup, but works just as well as an overall spritz to refresh a tired face (pro tip: this is a must-have for desk-to-date situations). Nudestix Clean-Up Pencil ($26) will clean up spillage in a swipe, and Marc Jacobs Le Marc Lip Crème ($32) provides just the punch of creamy color every kissable lip needs. You heard it here first.

Despite my oily skin, I love an illuminated complexion. For this reason, you’ll find both mattifying and highlighting products in my handbag every day. For date night, I rely on Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder ($35), Sephora Collection Oil Blotting Papers ($8) and Becca x Jaclyn Hill Shimmering Skin Perfector Slimline Highlight ($46). The slim shape of the highlighter pen allows for easy application (even in the back of an Uber).

Social media editor Anna takes a less-is-more approach to date night, taking only the essentials: Cover FX Pressed Mineral Foundation ($38), Sephora Collection Always Fresh Deodorant Wipes ($9) and cult favorite Make Up For Ever Mist and Fix Setting Spray ($28).

Fashion editor Amanda has the tousled bob of my dreams, so it’s no surprise the travel version of Jen Atkin’s Ouai Wave Spray ($12) is found in her clutch. Additionally, she carries Burberry Fresh Glow Highlighting Luminous Pen ($55) and Benefit The POREfessional License to Blot ($35). Together, these two are a powerful mattifying/highlighting duo—one I’m likely to steal.

Lifestyle editor Lauren favors Benefit Dandelion Powder ($30), Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayon ($25) and Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Gloss ($16) when she’s out on a date. The powder is particularly handy as not only does it come in a clutch-friendly size, it acts as both a brightening finishing powder and a sheer tint. Simply dial up your application to create rosy, radiant cheeks.
