Full disclosure: I’m in a long-term relationship. Most nights with my fiancé are spent in sweat pants, hair tied, chilling, with no makeup on—and despite what Drake says, that’s definitely not when I’m the prettiest.

Instead, date night is my jam. Heading out for some quality one-on-one time at a buzzy restaurant or bar is the perfect opportunity to doll up, while proving to myself (and him) that I’ve still got it.

For those casually dating or in newer relationships, date nights are certainly more frequent, but the same beauty rules apply: your look must be long-lasting, smudge-proof and effortless (in that I always look this good way). While there’s no need to tote your entire makeup kit to dinner, there are a few supplies you’ll enjoy having on hand—cue Sephora for all the essentials.
