OMG, you guys, I’m absolutely reeling from some major retail news! One of America’s biggest retail partnerships might be biting the dust, and the reason is… kinda wild.
For all my fellow beauty junkies, the Target and Ulta Beauty shop-in-shop collaboration is reportedly on its way out. The official line is “mutually agreed to terminate,” but here’s the tea from former employees: the theft was absolutely insane!
I’ve heard whispers from Target employees claiming their stores were losing over $10,000 worth of Ulta products every single month. And get this – some folks did inventory checks and found that a whopping 40% of their Ulta stock was just gone for the entire year. Even crazier? There are stories of people walking in with trash bags and swiping $8,000 worth of products in one go! Can you even imagine?!
Retail theft has totally blown up since the pandemic, and even though Target tried to lock stuff up, it clearly wasn’t enough. Analysts are pointing to “shrink” (that’s fancy talk for lost or stolen goods) as a major reason for this breakup. There’s also talk that Ulta wants to distance itself from some of Target’s recent boycott controversies.
This partnership, which kicked off in 2021, is set to officially wrap up in August 2026.

Target says they’re still committed to their beauty section and are even adding 2,000 new products. But seriously, getting stolen out of a partnership is just beyond ridiculous! And I’m sitting here thinking about all those amazing Ulta cosmetics sale events and general Ulta sale opportunities we’re going to miss out on by not having them easily accessible at Target!
